President Alvi and first lady get Covid-19 vaccination

President Dr Arif Alvi and First Lady Samina Alvi got the Covid-19 vaccine jab at a vaccination centre here in Tarlai area on Monday.

The president and the first lady arrived at the vaccination centre after they received the intimation from 1166 registration service where the duo had registered themselves on February 15.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan also accompanied the president and the first lady.

“I got myself registered on the Helpline 1166 and got the shots as per my turn”, the president told media persons on the occasion.

Dr. Alvi lauded the PTI government’s efforts to get the nation vaccinated against Covid-19, as well as its smart lockdown policy that greatly helped the country sustain economically.

He said the vaccination was never meant to do away with the precautionary measures rather it was meant to give further protection.

The president recalled that Imran Khan was the only leader who had resisted the call of blanket lockdown by all including experts but he went for smart lockdown just to avert the hunger-related deaths. The idea was later endorsed globally by many others, he asserted.

Dr. Alvi said the country kept the mosques open and also observed Eid festivals with precautions and recognized the sacrifices by the doctors.

He said the government has introduced an easy and the best mechanism to avoid long queues.”The elites around the world broke the lines and got themselves vaccinated,” he added.

The President advised to continue precautionary measures even after the vaccination.

He said in the wake of third wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the people should continue wearing face masks, frequent hand washing, and maintaining social distancing.

“I think the vaccine gives further protection but we will have to take precautions of wearing masks, washing hands and social distancing unless the world fully overcomes the pandemic. Allah knows till how long we will have to do this,” he emphasized.
